Link Party #72 and Mes Préférés!

Happy almost weekend!!  I know it is Thursday, but it feels like it took forever to get here.  Did you know I had to go the DMV three times this week??   THREE TIMES!  My 15.5 year old is hoping to pass the driver’s permit test so she can begin the exciting road to being a licensed driver.  (you have been warned if you live near me).

Tuesday is our 1st appt.

DMV clerk: Ummmm, you need an ORIGINAL copy of her birth certificate.  (It says this nowhere on the DMV website, NOWHERE, only proof of age)

Wednesday is our 2nd appt.  Mind you, I have given up my morning, and my daughter is missing school again.  Sadly, there is no time for us to do this after school.  We get in the “appointment only” line.

DMV clerk:  Are you here to take your learner’s permit test?  Me: Yes.  DMV Clerk:  So sorry to tell you, the camera is not working for the Driver’s license and Learner’s permit.  You can wait as long as you like, but we have no idea when it will be back up.

Have you ever waited at an DMV?  It is like People of Walmart, come to life, all crammed in together on teeny plastic chairs, while 80′s funk and disco is blaring out of the sound system, intermixed with a computer voice announcing who is next.  (Maybe this is just my DMV, yours is probably much snazzier).

I could have sworn I saw this man taking a nap on the chairs at the DMV too.

We did not wait.  We chose to try a different DMV, so hopefully as you read this, my daughter will be a card carrying member of the Drivers learning club.

Enough about Moi, let’s talk about YOU!  What amazing things did you share last week.  Here are some of the projects that caught my eye.  Again, and I know I am  a broken record now, but goodness you people are talented!

This first project is from Sharon at Elizabeth and Company.  I love this project because it is like Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way.  Sharon is quite the perfectionist, and it shows!

I always love a good Redoux, and this project was really fun.  Number Fifty Three took a tarnished old Thrift Store tray, an old frame, and put the two of them together for a really fun and beautiful piece of artwork.

I have been seeing half globes popping up everywhere.  This is the brightest idea I have seen so far.  Catherine from Freddy and Petunia made them into a light fixture!  If you haven’t been to see her blog, you should, she turns even the oldest junque into uber cool useable furniture.  And she has MAD power tool skills.

Here is an absolutely stunning chair makeover.  The wood was in poor condition, the original upholstery was just yuk, but The Ridiculous Redhead (love that name) did a perfect makeover.  She shares exactly what she did too, in case you have one of these in your garage….

This is a gorgeous makeover, this table was a three legged table, with one leg tied underneath it!  The top was in poor condition, but One Creative Couple rehabbed it.  Now it looks like  an expensive antique.  (You have to go check out this post to see some of their junque.  If I knew where they lived, I would be stopping by regularly to see if they wanted to get rid of anything…..)

Kristy from 4 the Love of Wood is a magician, she truly is.  She sees things from blah furniture that I would never see.  She adds legs made from things that were not meant to be legs, trim that wasn’t trim to begin with, and on and on.  She spied this on the side of the highway (my kind of shopping).  You would never guess the before and after were related.  Amazing.

Have you seen a Pallet Clock???? 2nd Essence made just that!  (decorative only), but it is so fun.  What a fantastique idea for using up those pallets, that I think are taking over the world.

Thank you to everyone who linked up!  I am sorry if I didn’t leave a comment, I really try to get to each link, and I am LOVE that you keep sharing your talent with me each week.

  1. I feel your pain! And NO, they don’t tell you that. We had to go home and get the birth certificate too. They also need a form for school (forget what?) so we were on trip 2. When we went back with it, there were 35 people ahead of us. Yeah… we left. Next day, he missed it by one question and we had to go back the next day for another shot at it. He passed! Yippee!!!! He’s got his learners permit now. HOPE you guys can say the same!

  19. HI, Karen, thanks for stopping by. Glad you like the tutorial on my new stairs. Left an answer on my blog, but wanted to be sure you saw it. I tried to make it as thorough as possible. If you look at the pics again, you can see the process. We ripped the 4×8′ sheet of smooth plywood down in long strips. Then used the miter saw to cut each piece to fit each step. That’s a necessary step to get your risers to fit on each step.

  20. The hubs and I just went to the DMV to renew out licenses! We vowed to not speak while in there – lest it lead to divorce! We kept quiet, people watched, laughed uproariously and ran screaming when done. Thank the lord it’s only once every 4 years!
