Trashy Tuesday, It’s the Little Things that Add Up

Happy Trashy Tuesday! Was your week just totally in the dump?

The Dumpsters, sides of the roads, and end of cul de sacs just seem to keep on giving!  Trust me, I have a garage to prove it again too!

I have cut back alittlbit on Dumpster Diving.  Between my finds and stuff that people have given me, Emma and I have found we barely have room to move.  And I am not exaggerating.  Slowly, but steadily making my way through it, we put a pretty nice dent in a bunch of my stuff that is headed for Paris Flea Market this Thursday – Sunday.

So this week, I seemed to just bring home mostly small stuff.

What is this you might ask…Shoe Scraper closed

Shoe Scraper

A shoe scraper of course!  Near my Home Depot (where I go so much, everybody knows my name, like my own personal “Cheers”!), there is a big empty field.  Some construction has been going on.  Once in a while I have been finding random weird things.  It is old and rusty, but I am sure it was used by a farmer out here at sometime.  He had to scrape those boots well before he could come inside.  It was rusty, chippy and just plain kind of cool, so of course I took it home with me.

Why would you want this thing?  I put it to use right away!  So cool, I didn’t have to go buy something to hold my papers and books:

Holder before

File holder after

I really recommend these books too, “Through the French Door”, and “Junk Genius”.  Do you see how many pages I have marked?

Do you need something to hold you up?  I found a bunch of shelf holders.  I can always find uses for these.  Funny things to throw out!

Are you getting the message that I really love the thrill of Dumpster Diving, or do I have to “press” the issue.  hahahahahaha. I actually found this at a furniture grave yard near my gym.  Why do people do these things???

Iron Board

I know it looks a little grungy.  Don’t worry, my clothing will not be touching this mini ironing board, but I did have the idea to Redoux it into a memo board.  Lots of potential.

Someone threw out some pretty cool kid art work.  I am throwing it out too.  I only want the frame. Sorry kid.

How about this super ugly low sofa table?  Remember these things?  Circa 1995ish?????  Lots of faux moderny looking stuff.  Blocky legs, blocky tops.  This one has removable glass inserts.  I plan to put baskets or some kind of holder in there instead.  Paint the thing super bright, add some wheels, and you have yourself a really cool party bar.  Can’t you see it?

Table drink bar before

There is even a shelf underneath for more storage!

Before I put the lid on my trash, I thought I would just remind you that with the words of Lil Wayne, Trash can be darn classy:”I always believe that to be the best, you have to smell like the best, dress like the best, act like the best. When you throw your trash in the garbage can, it has to be better than anybody else who ever threw trash in the garbage can.”

(O.K., I probably don’t smell the best after I have climbed in a dumpster, but I like this quote!)

Have a totally trashy week.

    Hey–the ugly sofa table—
    1. unscrew the top and throw in fire pit for that toasty-warm feeling!
    2. make a new butcher-block top for that party bar!
    3. Then cut a hole in it to drop in a large, restaurant-styled mixing bowl to hold ice and some drinks!
*drinks by the fire (courtesy the former top)–the gift that keeps on giving ; )

I love how you can see the potential in all that ‘trash’! The true ‘junque-ness’ of it and haul it home and turn it into something totally cool and unique! You have a great talent Karen!
ps – I posted the apron tutorial on my blog today! It was fun to go through it again. I changed it up a bunch, hope it was enough :)

You had me with the title, but then you you got me hooked with the Lil Wayne. Totally can’t wait to see what you do with the 90-fied table. How many Seinfeld episodes has THAT been privy to?
